Festival Summary

The Kirkintilloch Canal Festival is a great, fun summer event for all the family, focused around the lowland Forth and Clyde Canal which runs through the heart of Kirkintilloch town centre in East Dunbartonshire, just nine miles north-east of Glasgow city centre.

Come August every year, Kirkintilloch, the official 'Canal Capital of Scotland', is alive with activity as visitors from all over Scotland enjoy a wonderful day of family-focused fun and entertainment.

Festivities at the 2007 Kirkintilloch Canal Festival included:

  • Boat trips
  • Ghost Trips along the Canal
  • Live Music
  • Heritage displays
  • Local arts and crafts
  • Fun fairs Street theatre
  • New Street Parade
  • Steps to the Future regeneration stalls
  • Nature and Environment stalls and activities, which included the RSPB, Central Scotland forestry trust.

The 2007 Canal Festival was the largest to date with an increase of over 4,000 visitors on 2006.
