Bard in the Botanics 2008
21st June-2nd Aug 2008
Festival Summary
"The perfect way to enjoy a summer’s evening."
The Sunday Herald
As has been demonstrated time and time again in outdoor venues across the globe, William Shakespeare plays work very well in the open air – and Glasgow's world-famous Botanic Gardens in the city's West End provide a great backdrop for just such an event. In these historic, inspiring grounds many of the Bard's favourites, including:
A Midsummer Night's Dream
- Antony and Cleopatra
- The Tempest
- The Taming of the Shrew
- Much Ado About Nothing
- Henry V
have been performed to thrilled audiences and outstanding critical acclaim. Glasgow Repertory Company's annual outdoor William Shakespeare festival is unique in Scotland. Some of the outdoor performances include and invigorating walk through the lovely grounds, but fortunately picnic baskets are available to keep the hungry theatre-goer going for more. Also included are indoor performances are at Oran Mor, just across the Byres Road/Great Western Road junction beside the Botanic Gardens.
